Abstract: Translation as a substitute for love, as a therapy and as an art of forming a relationship. The representation of the female fictional translator. An analysis of seven cases. This diploma thesis and its literary analysis of seven texts (novels, short novels) in which the protagonists are female translators is a contribution to the Feminist Translation Studies. It shows that the female translator in fiction suffers from the same negative image as the male translator in fiction and that she is, in addition, characterized in a sexist manner. In five of the seven texts that have been analysed, the female translator, who lacks self-confidence, establishes a relationship with the text and/or the author of the source text. This relationship is very often characterized by an exaggerated idealisation, admiration and fascination which the female translator experiences towards the author’s text and the author himself. By behaving in this way, the female translator reproduces the idea of the inferiority of the translated text in comparison with the original. When the female translator in fiction is used as a metaphor in the text, she has, by contrast, a positive image while acting like a mediator between the humans, their cultures and their religions.
